DISCOVER LONDON

PART 1

If you want to see London, you may travel by tube or by bus.
London’s underground railway is familiarly called the Tube and it’s the quickest and most convenient way to travel around the capital and its suburbs. It consists of ten lines and has got 273 stations, which are indicated by the London Transport symbol you can see here.
If you decide to travel by tube, first look at the underground map to choose the train you must take. There are always large maps of the whole underground system in every station, but you can also easily obtain a leaflet. Then look at the list of the fares. Fares are different depending on the length of the journey and you must buy your ticket before travelling. Also remember that you will pay reduced fares if you are under 15! After that go to the platform and make sure you are waiting on the correct one. Check the indicator board with the different destinations on the platform and on the front of the trains.

On double-deckers fares are different depending on the length of the journey.
Single-deckers have got one deck only, and there are no conductors on them. When you get on the bus you must put your money in the box near the driver and he will give you your ticket.
Remember that on single-deckers the cost of the fares is always the same.
Before getting on any bus, check which one you must take. This depends both on your starting point and on your destination. A “Visitors’ Bus Wheel” may be of great help to you!
If you don’t want to waste your time queuing up for tickets, why don’t you buy a “ Travelcard”? With this special ticket you can use any London buses and underground either for one day or for one week: a very economical and easy way to get around London, isn’t it?
